Healthy start - free vouchers available
Have you heard of the Healthy Start government scheme that was introduced in 2006 to replace previous welfare food scheme?
Healthy Start is a UK-wide statutory government scheme to improve the health of low-income pregnant women and families on benefits and tax credits, to eat healthily and get the nutrition they need to have a great start in life.
With Healthy Start, people who qualify would receive a free voucher every week which can be used at local shops to buy milk, plain fresh and frozen fruit and vegetables, and infant formula milk. They would also receive a voucher to claim free vitamins.
There is more than 15,000 retailers and 30,000 retail outlets throughout the UK accept Healthy Start vouchers, supporting the 450,000 vulnerable families who rely on the scheme.
Although the scheme has a good take up rate there are still people who may not know about the scheme. If you come into contact with someone who would qualify for the healthy start vouchers, please encourage them to apply.
