We can help you find the information you need A thank you from Farmborough Court…
Here’s how our newsletter has helped one organisation in Sunderland provide excellent services. Please read this article and let us know how we can help you!
In our May 2019 E-bulletin we shared information about the Lions Club Message in a bottle. Message in a Bottle helps emergency services personnel to save valuable time in identifying an individual very quickly and knowing if they have any allergies or take special medication.
After this we were approached by the Manager of Farmborough Court Intermediate Care Centre.
Their Manager is an avid reader of our regular bulletin and asked if she could have a supply of the bottles to give to her customers, which we did.
She said; “Thank you so much for providing us with an initial supply of bottles and also the contact details for further supplies.
A lot of customers are concerned about going home, they needed reassurance that they will be safe. We look at ensuring services wrap around the customers and through the Healthwatch Sunderland newsletter we saw an article regarding ‘Message in a bottle’. The bottles are now being offered as part of discharge support plan so the customer knows if they become unwell emergency services can access all the relevant information in a timely, accurate way. This will ensure the best care is provided and next of kin notified.”
Following this and after reading our July 2019 E-bulletin, which included an article that had been published by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on oral care health in care homes, the Farmborough Court Manager got back in touch to say; “It is interesting to note that in the CQC newsletter and your Healthwatch Sunderland newsletter have a theme of oral/mouth care. We have just received a mouth care award for our initial assessment upon admission and staff training. Due to the nature of the service we can’t always get customers to a dentist. However we signpost them to their registered dentist or give them the details of wheelchair accessible dentists which Healthwatch Sunderland has developed and promoted in an earlier newsletter. We also identify support needs with mouth care in their care plan.
I just wanted to say that your earlier newsletter with accessible dentists has helped us to obtain the award from The Oral Health Manager from South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust.
Keep up the great work cascading information to help and support the customers of Sunderland.”
As a local Healthwatch, It’s great to hear that our E-bulletin is being read and used to benefit the people of Sunderland. To sign up go to: Newsletters Section on our website
