Information is power

How we provided Sarah to get the information she needed to receive her preferred treatment.
Measuring tape on some weight scales

Through our regular engagement at a local older people’s group, Sarah shared her experience of trying to access the weight loss injection, Ozempic, through her GP. Sarah explained that when she approached her GP she was informed the surgery do not offer it and therefore being refused the treatment due to this and not because she did not meet the criteria for prescribing it.

Sarah was not satisfied with her GP's response as she knows of someone locally who is receiving the treatment, so she asked us to investigate this for her.

We contacted our local Integrated Care Board who responded with a link to the NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines on weight loss injections.  We presented this to Sarah and suggested she go back to her GP and present them with the information we had provided and enquire if Ozempic was not a suitable option for her to ask what other weight loss options would be based on her individual circumstances.

What difference did this make

Thanks to our work, Sarah informed us that she has revisited her GP and armed with the information supplied by us, the GP has reversed their decision and Sarah has now been prescribed Ozempic.

Sarah was so grateful for the support she received from us and overjoyed with the final outcome. She looks forward to seeing results and living a healthier and more confident life.
