Findaway: Family, Friends, and Communities Project

62% of survivors told a friend or family member about the abuse before anyone else

For 40 years Wearside Women In Need (WWIN) have supported communities in Sunderland through their specialist domestic abuse services. Now – through Findaway - they hope to reach those impacted earlier, before the abuse escalates, by supporting those around them.

Findaway is a project that recognises that you – the families, friends, and community members – are usually the first to know, and best placed to support, if someone you know affected by domestic abuse. They want to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to support them effectively.

Findaway is open to anyone aged 16 and over and living in Tyne & Wear or Northumberland. Their service includes:

  • An anonymous phoneline,
  • peer-support groups,
  • educational workshops and resources.

Their trained advocates can provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to effectively support the person you’re worried about.

They believe we all know someone affected by domestic abuse, and we can all help.

If you’re worried, talk to them
