Claire Atherton, Speech & Language Therapist, South Tyneside & Sunderland Foundation Trust

On the 5th June Anna our Engagement Co-ordinator went along to South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust, to present and celebrate with Claire Atherton who is a Speech and Language Therapist, as she received her Healthwatch Sunderland Star Award.

Claire received her award after she was nominated by a lady for all the support her and her daughter had received from Claire.

Some of the feedback included:

If anyone deserves recognition, I fully believe it should be Claire. I would have been very down and anxious not knowing where to turn had it not been for Claire being on the other end of the phone.  The NHS needs a lot more people like her if they can find any.

Claire was surprised by the Award but really appreciative she commented;

Thanks for the lovely surprise. I really didn't expect it and it was quite overwhelming to have lots of people there to support me. It's very touching that a parent has gone out of her way to say such nice things about the service that we offer. I think that we all strive to do the best we can under the pressures that we have but often feel that we could do more. So, something out of the blue, like this can mean so much.

The Healthwatch team would like to congratulate Claire on her award and are pleased she liked her surprise.
