Wendy from our team was deeply honoured to present the staff at the Niall Quinn Children’s Centre with their second Star Award on 14th August.  The Engagement Team have visited the centre on many occasions, where they have supported our Youthwatch to gather patient and carer feedback on the centre.

The feedback we received about the staff at the centre is always so positive and reflective of the great work they do there.  Recently, we also received this fabulous nomination from a member of the public who attends the centre with their child:

"I am nominating Debbie and Emma because they go above and beyond in helping with my son, whether it's medically or with support. My son is under Dr Harvey, Debbie is his secretary, nothing is ever too big or small, she deals with my or my wife's concerns, always helps where she can and is such a down-to-earth, lovely person. Her colleague Emma is the same, she deals with SEND information and support and will do anything in her power to help and direct us to the relevant support, especially recently when I contacted Dr Harvey's secretary wanting advice on EHCPs as my son’s application was refused. She said she would get Emma to ring me as she would know best what my next steps were. Emma rang me, took all the information down, and went through everything. She directed me to relevant groups such as SENDIASS and gave me advice on what to do. Because of her knowledge, the decision was overturned, and we were granted an assessment.

I just wanted to let you know that these two angels are a credit to their work and the Niall Quinn Children Centre. Being a parent carer is hard, and it's lovely to know Debbie and Emma are there to help and take some of the pressure off us. They are a credit to Sunderland Hospital. If only everyone were as caring as them."

The team were delighted to receive their award, and Emma was there too for the special mention for herself and Debbie, who was on annual leave.

Emma said;

I really wasn't expecting it all, but I'm really flattered. I'm a parent carer myself, so I understand the fights and the struggles our patients and parents go through, and it's hard. I love my job and what I do, and it makes it all worthwhile, especially when we get lovely feedback from our fantastic parents and patients.”

When we caught up with Debbie, she added;

 “I appreciate the kind words of being nominated. It makes a whole difference in what I do, receiving the lovely feedback from our patients. “

Well done, everyone at the Niall Quinn Children’s Centre, for everything you do for your patients and their carers!
