On the 24th of April, the team had the pleasure of visiting the Phoenix Unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital to present the staff team with a Healthwatch Nominate a Star award. The Phoenix Unit is the Trust’s Chemotherapy, Haematology and Infusion Day Unit, and we have recently received some amazing feedback from those who have used its services. On behalf of the patients we have heard from over the past few months, the Engagement team issued the award in recognition of the fantastic work the team are doing.
Feedback received included:
“Everything runs on time. You get your own nurse. All are very friendly and dedicated. They explain everything they are doing. You get spoilt with tea and biscuits. Also, lunch if you want it. All staff work very hard.”
“Very professional, and caring, never had one issue with any of the staff from the start of my treatment, which has been ongoing for 15 months.”
“This service is excellent for patients. The nurses and staff make you feel comfortable and at ease and are always there to help. This is particularly important because many patients are receiving chemo or cancer prevention treatment, which can be very frightening.”
Directorate Manager, Chris Black, was delighted that the department has been recognised for their work.
He said:
“I’m incredibly proud of the team and their dedication. This fantastic feedback shows how much it means to patients and their families to be treated with kindness, patience and professionalism during such a difficult time.
Thank you so much on behalf of the Phoenix Unit.”
Well done from everyone at Healthwatch Sunderland, and congratulations on your award.
