Working with local NHS Sexual Health team to make their education sessions more inclusive

Some of our amazing Youthwatch members spoke up and shared that the college's sexual health information sessions weren’t meeting their needs, especially when it came to LGBTQ+ inclusivity.

We took their feedback straight to the South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Sexual Health Education Team, who jumped at the chance to listen and learn. A representative met with our Youthwatch and together they brainstormed ways to improve the standard presentation used in schools, colleges and universities in Sunderland.

Then we collaborated with the Humankind LGBTQ+ group, who added even more brilliant ideas to make the sessions truly inclusive for Sunderland’s diverse LGBTQ+ communities.

Thanks to Youthwatch and our partnership with Humankind, sexual health education in Sunderland is getting a vibrant, inclusive upgrade—and young people are feeling seen and supported.
